As part of our mission to promote the highest standards of ethics, education, and professional excellence, CFA Society Nigeria works closely with universities in Nigeria to promote the CFA® designation and to equip both undergraduate and postgraduate students with ethical standards and practical skills in investment analysis that will be required in the workplace. We currently run two university competitions:
- CFA Institute Research Challenge®
- CFA Society Nigeria Ethics Challenge
CFA Institute Research Challenge
The CFA Institute Research Challenge is the largest Equity Research Competition in the world and was launched in Nigeria in 2017. This annual program provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis. Working in teams, students gain real-world experience as they assume the role of research analysts and are judged on their ability to value a stock, write a research report, and present their recommendations.
CFA Institute Research Challenge
The overriding objective of the Research Challenge is to provide university students with valuable real-world exposure to the practice of finance to complement the theoretical framework of university education. In addition, the competition provides them an opportunity to foster lifelong relationships with the finance industry as students get introduced to investment professionals as mentors, peers from other universities and companies involved with the Research Challenge.
Teams of 4 students compete with peers from other schools to see who will become the local, regional, and global champions. Winners will also enjoy travel and scholarship opportunities with cash prizes.
CFA Society Nigeria Ethics Challenge
The Ethics Challenge launched in Nigeria in 2016 strives to embody CFA Institute’s global mission to promote “the highest standards of ethics.” It touches on many of CFA Institute’s Future of Finance six areas of focus including: Transparency and Fairness, Regulation and Enforcement, and Safeguarding the System. It also promotes ethical awareness and fosters a healthy financial environment.
CFA Society Nigeria Ethics Challenge
The Ethics Challenge summons students to analyze a situation with a “grey” area where right or wrong may not be apparent. Student teams are given a case study with an ethical dilemma and present their recommendations to a panel of senior charterholders. A question-and-answer period follows, and a champion is later announced during a cocktail reception.

Through cooperation with universities around the world, CFA Institute seeks to promote ethics-based investment education in university degree programs aimed at developing investment professionals.
