As part of our mission to promote the highest standards of ethics, education, and professional excellence, CFA Society Nigeria works closely with universities in Nigeria to promote the CFA® designation and to equip both undergraduate and postgraduate students with ethical standards and practical skills in investment analysis that will be required in the workplace. We currently run two university competitions:
- CFA Investment Research Challenge®
- CFA Society Nigeria Ethics Challenge
The CFA Institute educational programs are designed to develop the next generation of investment professionals globally. The activities under the educational programs are carefully designed to promote a high level of professionalism and ethical practices in investment research by students from universities and business schools through hands-on mentoring and intensive training on company analysis. Over time, these initiatives have culminated in a number of inter-university competitions.
CFA Society Nigeria Ethics Challenge
The Ethics Challenge embodies the CFA Institute global mission to promote the highest standards of ethics. It touches on many of the CFA Institute “Future of Finance” areas of focus, including: transparency and fairness, regulation and enforcement, and safeguarding the system. This competition among Nigerian universities promotes ethical awareness and provides students with tools to manage and resolve ethical dilemmas they will face when they enter the profession.
Two universities competed at the first edition of the society’s Ethics Challenge held in November 2016, and the University of Lagos won the competition. In November 2017, seven universities (University of Abuja, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, University of Nigeria Nsukka, University of Ibadan, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, Babcock University, and University of Lagos) competed in the second annual Ethics Challenge. The University of Lagos won the 2017 competition, with Obafemi Awolowo University and University of Ibadan finishing as first runner-up and second runner-up, respectively. In 2017, First Bank of Nigeria Limited agreed to sponsor the Ethics Challenge for the next three years.
