CFA Institute Research Challenge

The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual global competition that connects university students with investment professionals from within the CFA Society® network. The competition provides students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis and ethics and tests participants' analytical, valuation, reporting writing, and presentation skills.

Members of our society, along with a faculty advisor and an industry mentor, work with teams of students to value a stock, write a research report, and present their recommendations. Teams then compete with peers from other schools at local-level competitions organized and judged by CFA Society members and volunteers. The winning university team(s) from each local competition then advances to see who will become the sub-regional, regional, and global champions.

The CFA Institute Research Challenge in Nigeria

At CFA Society Nigeria, we proudly host the local edition of the CFA Institute Research Challenge, providing university students with a platform to showcase their financial analysis, valuation, and presentation skills. Over the past seven years, we have engaged over 25 universities, equipping students with practical experience, mentorship from industry experts, and a pathway to global recognition.

Each participating university forms a team of four students (two males, two females), guided by a faculty adviser and an industry mentor. The teams conduct in-depth research on a publicly traded company, develop a comprehensive research report after attending rigorous BootCamp training, and present their findings to a distinguished panel of judges.

Through this challenge, CFA Society Nigeria has fostered a culture of excellence and competitiveness, with several university teams advancing beyond the local competition to compete at sub-regional. As participation continues to grow, we remain committed to providing students with unparalleled exposure to the investment industry.
