CFA Society Nigeria has officially opened applications for the inaugural Portfolio Management Challenge (PMC), a national initiative designed to provide undergraduate students with practical, real-world exposure to portfolio management and investment decision-making.
The Portfolio Management Challenge is built to help students develop investment analysis, portfolio construction, and risk management skills using simulated investing and real Nigerian market data. Unlike trading competitions focused on speculation, the PMC is designed around professional portfolio management principles and long-term investment thinking.
The challenge offers two participation tracks:
- Team Track for CFA Society Nigeria-affiliated university investment clubs
- Individual Track for students interested in participating independently
Participants will manage simulated portfolios using real Nigerian Exchange market data while gaining valuable insight into how professional portfolio managers think, evaluate opportunities, and make investment decisions.
Applications are now open and will close on 30 June 2026. The competition will commence in July 2026 with an informational session designed to guide participants through the challenge structure, expectations, and platform onboarding process.
The Portfolio Management Challenge is proudly sponsored by TrustBanc and powered by Cowrywise. CFA Society Nigeria is also pleased to deliver this initiative with the support of key partners. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Nigeria has endorsed the challenge, while the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group) serves as the Market Data Partner, reinforcing the programme’s commitment to market relevance and investor education.
Speaking on the launch, CFA Society Nigeria noted that the Portfolio Management Challenge reflects the Society’s commitment to strengthening finance education, building investment capability among young Nigerians, and developing the next generation of ethical and skilled investment professionals.
